Prospective Parliamentary Candidate
Sam Cross is the leader of UKIP on North Yorkshire County Council and Scarborough Borough Council. Sam previously stood on an anti-corruption ticket before the MP’s expenses scandal hit the press.
Sam has not claimed one penny in expenses in over 10 years as a county and local councillor. Sam also believes there should be much more transparency in local government.
Sam has campaigned against the waste of taxpayer’s money by council officers on car allowances. This has allowed some officers to claim nearly £20 per mile on expenses.
Sam has also campaigned against the unnecessary use of consultants by Scarborough Borough Council, with the council’s spending approaching £1million.
Sam has worked for 30 years in the Insurance and Financial Services Industry as a manager. Sam is a Chartered Insurer and has a Diploma In Financial Services. Sam was previously the chair of Axa / Sun Life Staff Association.
Outside of work Sam is a father of four. Sam’s eldest is a nurse at Scarborough Hospital whilst his son is an officer in the Merchant Navy, with Sam’s other children attending local colleges. Sam’s is a trustee on the board of Dial-A-Ride and also an active Lion with over 10 years service to the local community. Sam is also a very keen golfer and enjoys watching sport.
